Agents book the leave. The balance can't go negative.
Leave raised from chat or email reserves its days when it lands. Approvals need a named approver who isn't the person on leave, and every decision stays on the record.
Where agent leave handling goes wrong.
01
Balances read once, used twice
Two requests checked against the same balance both look fine, and together they overdraw it.
02
Approvals with no approver
A request marked approved by "the bot" tells nobody who decided.
03
Changes that erase the original
Editing a decided request removes the record of what was asked for.
Scenarios
Questions a people team can answer.
How OpenHR answers
Exactly what the record says, by leave type. Pending and approved requests both count as used.
How OpenHR answers
The server refused them with the balance left. The agent offered the one remaining day instead.
How OpenHR answers
No. A second live request that overlaps the first is refused and names the one already there.

Controls.
Leave can't go negative
A tracked balance never drops below zero, and overlapping requests are refused.
One holder per asset
A second open assignment is refused by the service and by a database index.
Exits gate on custody
Asset clearance can't be signed off while kit is out.
Audit log
Every change writes an audit row in the same transaction.
Read-only SQL
run_query accepts SELECT statements only.
Self-hosted
One SQLite file on infrastructure you control.
Questions.
Which leave types are tracked?
Casual, sick, earned and comp-off carry balances. Work from home, maternity and unpaid leave are recorded without one.
Does it handle attendance or payroll?
No. There's no clock-in, roster or salary run in v0.1. Attendance regularisation is planned for v0.2.
Does it have sign-in?
Not yet. The open-source server has no sign-in or roles, and its HTTP transports bind to localhost by default. Keep it off shared networks. API keys with employee, manager and HR-admin roles are planned for v0.2, and Attri adds sign-in and roles in managed deployments.
Let your agents handle the HR admin.Keep the rules on the server.
Run OpenHR on a demo company in minutes, or have Attri deploy it inside your environment with sign-in, roles and approval rules.
